Wai Kiat "Walter" Chin and Arjun Subedi, graduate students in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, received prestigious fellowships from the Advanced Light Source (ALS), a U.S. Department of Energy scientific user facility at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Both students are part of the department's Condensed Matter and Materials Physics research area.
Subedi, a graduate student fellow with Emergent Quantum Materials and Technologies (EQUATE), earned a Collaborative Postdoctoral Fellowship. Fellows spend a year in residence at the ALS, pursuing research projects as part of teams and tackling current scientific challenges using advanced synchrotron radiation tools. They share and exchange ideas and techniques to enhance their skills and professional training.
Chin will join the Doctoral Fellowship in Residence Program to work at the frontier of synchrotron radiation research and help advance state-of-the-art techniques and applications. He will spend a year in residence, working closely with an ALS staff member, acquiring hands-on scientific training to complement doctoral research.
