Jocelyn Bosley, assistant director for education and outreach at the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center in the Department of Physics, was named an IF/THEN Ambassador by the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Launched on March 4, IF/THEN is a national initiative seeking to further women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by empowering those currently in STEM fields to inspire the next generation. The 125 Ambassadors are contemporary role models in STEM-related professions in the United States who will connect with middle-school girls in person and through various media platforms, attend summits, and create personal press kits for outreach that highlight their stories.
Bosley is the co-organizer of the annual Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physical Sciences, as well as the co-founder and host of the university's annual Science Slam competition, curator of Funsize Physics, and co-host of the podcast Science with Friends.
I'm thrilled to share that I've been selected as a @aaas IF/THEN Ambassador! I look forward to representing @UNLincoln and @NebraskaMRSEC, and to joining so many amazing #WomenInSTEM as we inspire the next generation of #STEM pioneers. #IfThenSheCan https://t.co/GHYRJkLNou pic.twitter.com/lY042UOT63

Special thanks to the brilliant, creative, supportive colleagues at @LPSorg and @UNLPhysics who have contributed so much -- and continue to contribute so much -- to my life and work over the last decade. #ThereIsNoPlaceLikeNebraska #InOurGritOurGlory

Ambassadors were selected based on overall excellence with a focus on: contributions to their STEM-related field, commensurate with their career stage; demonstrated experience and abilities in STEM communication and public engagement via media, classroom, and public programs; and commitment to inspiring middle-school girls to be the next generation of STEM pioneers. The IF/THEN Girls Advisory Council, a group of more than 150 10-18-year-old girls from around the country, participated in the selection process.
Lyda Hill Philanthropies, an organization that funds transformational advances in science and nature and empowers nonprofit organizations, collaborated with more than 30 organizations, including AAAS, Girl Scouts of the USA, and National Geographic, to form IF/THEN.
Founded in 1848, AAAS seeks to advance science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world. With individual members in more than 91 countries, it is the world's largest multidisciplinary scientific society and a leading publisher of research through its Science family of journals.
