Roland Hesse, a graduate student in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, has earned a Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program award from the Department of Energy's Office of Science.
The award allows graduate students to carry out research projects that addess scientific challenges central to Office of Science mission areas. Hesse is one of 78 awardees from 55 universities across the nation.
He will conduct research at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for six months in the Discovery Plasma Science program, which supports research that explores the fundamental properties and complex behavior of matter in the plasma state to improve the understanding required to control and manipulate plasmas for a broad range of applications. Researchers in the department collaborate with the Berkeley Lab Laser Accelerator (BELLA) Center at the LBNL.
