We appreciate the many alumni and friends who have supported the Department of Physics & Astronomy. We greatly value your private gifts, as they are vital to keeping our program on the cutting edge and continuing a positive learning experience for our students.
Your gifts help to create academic, leadership, and research opportunities for students and faculty. All donations are greatly appreciated, and even small amounts per month add up to a substantial annual gift.
Priority Funding Needs
The following priorities have been determined by the Department for funding. Several established funds are also available for donor participation.
Create Your Own Fund
Establishing your own fund is the ultimate way to make a difference in the Department. Your support enables the Department to enhance students' experiences through relevant and challenging educational programs, cutting edge research, and the transfer of knowledge, which helps prepare competent and intelligent graduates who are ready for careers in physics or other disciplines.
Student Support
Undergraduate Scholarships
Each year, the Department awards up to $35,000 to undergraduate Physics and Astronomy Majors. These gifts increase financial aid opportunities for deserving students. With the help of scholarships, students are able to engage in more opportunities within the Department including seminars, lectures, and research.
Graduate Student Bridge Program and Fellowships
Whether collaborating with faculty on research or teaching and mentoring undergraduates, graduate students are crucial to the strength and integrity of the university. Private support for graduate fellowships ensures that the university will continue to attract the top minds as graduate students. The Bridge Program is specifically designed to help incoming graduate students from the U.S. be better prepared for graduate-level coursework. Students arrive at Nebraska before the fall semester for two weeks of intense study. Your gift supports this program and enables students to begin their studies with more confidence in their knowledge.
Faculty Support
The Physics & Astronomy Department utilizes a high standard in teaching and development of our students. Faculty not only prepare students for employment or graduate study through rigorous coursework but they also employ undergraduate and graduate students within their research laboratories. Faculty give students hands-on experiences that enrich their education and provide learning outcomes with real world applications.
