1. Create a friendly laboratory environment to support a maximum of 18 algebra-based introductory physics students (primarily pre-med and teacher's college majors). The room should be flexible enough to accommodate Workshop Physics style activities should they be adopted at UNL.

2. Place focus of the room on the students and their work, not on the lab instructor.

• No "front of the room"
• No lecture podium

3. Lab instructor should have easy access to all groups to monitor and facilitate learning.

• No groups "stuck" back in a corner
• Anyone can easily walk around the room

4. Encourage small-group work and promote equal access to technology for all group members.

5. "Physics" goals.

• Proper lighting for physics experiments
• Easily mount equipment overhead (like motion sensors)
• Easy access to outlets and a sufficient number of circuits
• Easy access to ethernet data ports
