Spring, 1998

Due 1/27/98

Study free body diagrams, and complete the following tasks to hand in on Tuesday,
January 27
th, at the beginning of class:

From Newton's Second Law you know that the acceleration of an object is
determined from the unbalanced, or net, forces acting on it. So a first step in solving
any dynamics problem is to figure out what forces are actually acting on an object.
One technique for doing this is to draw a free-body diagram and label all of the forces
acting on an object.

1 ( 3 pts)Use the InfoMallto learn more about free body diagrams.
Find a portion of information on the InfoMall that explains free body
diagrams in a way that you understand. Note: you may have to read more than one
source to find a good explanation for you.
Summarize what you think a free body diagram is and how to make one
from the source that you read.
Give the complete citation for the source that you used.
