Computer Intensive Physics 212

Day 8
Outline:

Ohm's Law

Fall, 1997

September 23, 1997

  1. Analyzing Circuits - expanding your knowledge of electric current concepts
    Activity HO-8
  1. Homework for next class -
On Thursday we will have our first hour exam. It will be half on
paper and half on the computer. You will have to take turns
working on the computer part, so half of the class will start
on the computer part and half will start on the paper part.
We will design each part to be about 30 minutes long, but we
will allow up to 50 minutes for each part. You are permitted
one 3" x 5" card of notes for the paper part of the exam. Of
course, for the computer part you will have access to the
    InfoMall on each computer.
If you look over the course outline, you will notice that we have
skipped Lesson 4-Capacitors. We will come back to that later.
The topics we are covering that you might wish to review are:
Lesson 1Coulomb's Law and the Electric Field
    1-1: Electric Forces and Fields
1-2: Particle Motion in Electric Fields
    Lesson 2Flux and Gauss's Law
    2-1: Electric Flux
    2-2: Gauss's Law
    2-3: Applications of Gauss's Law
    2-4: An Insulated Conductor
    Lesson 3Electric Potential
    3-1: Definitions and Relations
    3-2: Finding Potentials from Charges
    3-3: Finding Fields from Potentials
    Lesson 5 - Ohm's Law
    5-1: Current
    5-2: Resistance and Ohm's Law
5-3: Electric Power and Energy Transfer
