Lesson #3 - Finishing Gauss's Law and working with Electric Potential

1. Comments on Electric Potential

  1. Computer Modeling CM-5.1- Field Map

Studying electric equipotential lines around various shapes using EM

    Field
    software.
  1. Gauss's Law -week 3

    Another lesson using Maple

4. Computer Modeling CM-5.2- Gauss's Law

  1. Homework for next class -

The following charge distribution applies as a rough model of

the charge inside a light atomic nucleus, say a calcium nucleus

    (Ca,atomic number 20).

A spherical charge distribution is given by

IMAGE Imgs/Day_5_Outline01.GIF

(a) Calculate the total charge inside the sphere of radius a.

(b) Find the electric field vectors outside the nucleus, say at a

distance r = 2*a

(c)Compute the flux (surface) integral of the electric field over

the sphere of radius 2*a.

(d)Compare your results from parts (a) and (c) with Gauss's

Law. Is Gauss's Law verified?
