Physics & Astronomy

Graduate

GradPic2

We have begun reviewing applications for Fall 2008 admission. We will accept applications until the entering class has been filled; however, the later they arrive, the more likely it is that financial aid, including lucrative fellowships, will already have been committed.

The Department of Physics & Astronomy is made up of four basic research groups: Atomic, Molecular, Optical and Plasma Physics; Condensed Matter & Materials Physics; High Energy Physics; and Astronomy & Astrophysics. Graduate students are involved in projects like the study of nanoscale magnetic materials, they perform experiments to "stop" light and some even study the fundamental constituents of matter at some of the world's highest-energy particle accelerator laboratories.
