Graduate Assistantship, Fellowship & Scholarship Opportunities

All students accepted into the graduate program are eligible for Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) and Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs). Applicants are automatically considered for supplemental UNL-funded fellowships. If you are selected for one of these fellowships, you will be notified in your letter of acceptance.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy also has funding from the U.S. Department of Education to support between three and six graduate students with a fellowship program called GAANN (Graduate Assistantships in Areas of National Need) for the calendar year academic year – spring semester, summer, fall semester. The Department of Education set up this fellowship program to support graduate students interested in pursuing a career in teaching and/or research in particular areas of study which are important to the United States, such as physics. Fellowship eligibility is based on your financial need, and you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (or citizen of one of the Freely Associated States). Click here for more information.
